Cookies & Browser Storage

Essential cookies

This website uses a small number of cookies that are necessary for it to work. They are set for two purposes:

• Security. One cookie protects the forms on this site, so that a form cannot be submitted on your behalf from another website.
• Recognising your browser. One cookie holds a random identifier, so that a saved result you have already verified can be shown to you again without asking you to verify a second time. It cannot be read by scripts on the page, and it lasts about six months; the permission to open a verified result expires sooner than the cookie itself does.

The identifier is a random value. It does not contain your name, email address, phone number or any other detail about you, and it is not used to build a profile of you or to follow you to other websites.

Browser storage

Separately from cookies, this site may use your browser’s own storage to remember things that only matter to you while you are using an interactive tool — for example the answers you have given so far, and the temporary state needed to continue where you left off.

The answers you give to the improvement questions on our home page stay in your browser. They are not sent to us, and they remain on your device until you clear your browser storage.

Calculators and saved results

When you deliberately submit a calculator to get a saved result, the figures you entered are sent to our server and stored so that the result can be produced and shown to you again later. That is a submission you choose to make, not something a cookie does in the background.

Our privacy policy explains in more detail what is collected, how it is used and who processes it.

Analytics and advertising

We currently do not use third-party analytics, advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies. No analytics or advertising script runs on these pages.

If this changes, we will update this page and the privacy policy before using non-essential tracking technologies.

Managing cookies and storage

You can block or delete cookies and clear browser storage from your browser’s settings. Most browsers also let you be warned before a cookie is set.

Because the cookies and storage this site uses are the ones that make it work, blocking or clearing them may stop parts of the site functioning correctly — sending an enquiry, keeping your place in an interactive tool, verifying your email address, or opening a saved result.
